The New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Department is calling for submissions of Chinese literary work for their Literature Awards Competition. Local and international submissions are accepted before July 15, 2023 for the chance to win some of more than NT$1.3 million in prize money.
Original Chinese essays, poems, short stories, picture book stories are welcome. In addition, a special photo or picture essay category is also open for new immigrants. Lin, Shih-ying (林詩穎), New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Department Cultural Development Section Chief, emphasized that contributions from novice writers are welcome as long as entries are written in Chinese.
Lin also elaborated that essays submitted for the new immigrants photo or picture essay category must be between 100 and 500 words and include an image, either photographic or otherwise created. The first prize winner for this category will receive NT$20,000 (US$640), the two second prize winners will receive NT$10,000 each, and five third prize winners will receive NT$5,000 each.
The New Taipei City Literature Awards was created to encourage more people to participate in Chinese literary creation and cultivate new talent. The award ceremony is expected to be held in November of this year. In addition to the winners receiving trophies and prize money, all the winning works will also be edited and published.
