Busy pet owners sometimes struggle to keep healthy diets for their pets. But at one restaurant in Kaohsiung, overweight kitties have at least one chance to be champions.

A cat owner struggles to carry her chunky kitty over to a scale. But this is no health checkup, it's a competition to see who’s got the fattest cat. The contest is being hosted by a restaurant in Kaohsiung City to see whose chonk has the most chub.
While no one can deny the cuteness of these felines, they are heavy. A total of 10 cats tried their luck on the scale. The winner, Ami, came in at 10.6 kilograms, nearly twice the weight of an average cat, earning her the title of champion chonk.
The restaurant owner and host of the competition Hou Ya-ning (侯亞寧) says that Ami was rescued from a shelter. She is now nine years old, and the weight has created some issues for her. He says the weight is hard on Ami’s joints, which makes walking difficult.
While overweight cats are cute and fluffy, veterinarians say they are at much higher risk of health conditions such as diabetes, skin problems, and mobility issues. Vets also say that there has been an increase in overweight pets in Taiwan since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, as people have tended to stay indoors and exercise less.
So make sure to do your research and talk to your vet so you can maintain the purrfect diet for your furry friends.
