China’s Taiwan Affairs Office announced on Tuesday that imports of Taiwan sugar apples will resume, marking an end to the almost two year suspension. However, only those sourced from registered packaging factories and orchards will be allowed as imports.
Agriculture and Food Agency Director General Hu Jong-i (胡忠一) says he welcomes the development and hopes that China will soon lift the suspension on other Taiwanese agricultural products, such as pineapples and wax apples, as well.
China suspended the importation of Taiwanese pineapples from March 2021 on the grounds that agricultural pests were detected. On September 20 of the same year, it also suspended the import of Taiwanese sugar apples and wax apples for the same reason
