British actor Luke Evans will be working in Taiwan with Taiwanese actress Gwei Lun-mei (桂綸鎂) in a new film by French director Luc Besson. Evans, who has acted in the films "Playhead 6" and "Beauty and the Beast," released a selfie with Taipei 101 on Instagram on Sunday, asking his fanbase, "guess where I am?”
Luc Besson featured Taipei in the 2014 movie “Lucy,” starring actress Scarlett Johansson, which brought global media attention to the city. Besson returned in February of this year to scout locations for the new action comedy tentatively titled, "Weekend in Taipei.”
According to foreign media reports, the film describes Luke Evans as a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent in Taipei on the hunt for criminals. He meets an old lover played by Gwei and the action-packed story continues. The filming is expected to last three months and will include areas such as Ximending, Zhongshan Hall, the Dome, Taipei City Hall, and more.
