Polish Foreign Affairs Committee Vice Chairwoman Barbara Bartus has arrived in Taiwan with a delegation to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and visit the Hsinchu Science Park.

In her speech, Bartus thanked Taiwan for its assistance to the refugees in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed on Russia. She said that Poland is an important country in Eastern Europe with profound potential and goals to establish direct flights with Taiwan. Bartus added that they are particularly interested in the field of semiconductors and hope to cooperate on research and development, technology transfer, and personnel training.

President Tsai said that Taiwan and Poland have begun many important projects together in the fields of economy, education, science, and technology in the past few years. She noted that during the global vaccine shortage, Poland donated 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Taiwan, which the people of Taiwan were deeply touched by. She also added that 93 members of the Polish-Taiwanese parliamentary group have issued a joint statement of support and thanked Poland for the friendship it has shown to Taiwan.

The president pointed out that after the start of the Russia-Ukraine war last year, Taiwan and Poland also face the challenge of authoritarian expansion together. She said that they will continue to cooperate in the future and that she also looks forward to deepening the partnership between Taiwan and Poland.
