The defense ministry released the updated Civil Defense Handbook today after more than a year of revisions. Originally launched in April last year, the new version has been expanded to 47 pages compared to the initial 23 pages.
The Defense Mobilization Agency director Shen Weizhi (沈威志) explained that the handbook is divided into two parts: "Peacetime Preparations" and "Wartime Responses". Peacetime preparations include information on how to prepare emergency kits, identification of air defense alarms, and recognizing places of import nearest to you such as air raid shelters and hospitals. Wartime responses detail how to identify a friend or foe and how to verify accurate information in case of disinformation.
The defense ministry pointed out that the updated handbook has been revised to address criticisms of the original version. In addition to adding text descriptions and supplementing these with appropriate illustrations, the current version provides more detailed survival strategies in various emergency situations.
The Civil Defense Handbook can be downloaded from the official website of the Ministry of National Defense.
