Taiwan is ready for the Chinese military’s next move, regardless of what it is. That came from Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng speaking at the legislature on Wednesday.
On Monday US State Secretary Anthony Blinken said China is accelerating its plans to unify with Taiwan. That followed Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s remarks that Beijing reserves the right to use force against Taiwan. In response, Minister Chiu says there are a number of possible moves from across the strait, and Taiwan’s defense forces are prepared for all of them.
Chiu has also recently said that Taiwan’s military has outlined a response plan to a possible first strike from China. He said if Taiwan is attacked, it will defend itself and respond accordingly.
This comes as China has increased military activity around Taiwan following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit in August.
