A report has ranked Taiwan as fifth in the world when it comes to providing internet freedom. Freedom House released the report on Tuesday, which ranked 70 countries' access to internet freedom.

Taiwan scored 79 points out of 100, higher than any other country in Asia. Freedom House says Taiwan's government has taken steps to track and limit the spread of disinformation from China, especially regarding military activity in the cross-strait region and the war in Ukraine. The messaging app Line has also developed ways for users to report false information on its media platform.

The report claims internet freedom around the world has become increasingly restrictive over the past 12 years. China's internet freedom ranked as the worst in the world for the eighth consecutive year, and is followed closely by Myanmar, Iran, and Cuba.

But Freedom House also says internet freedom in 26 countries improved over the past year, a record-breaking figure. The report states that many countries have implemented laws to make organizations more accountable for the information they post online.
