Premier Su Tseng-chang says Chinese tech giant Huawei may be linked to a recent security breach involving Taiwan’s National Security Director Chen Ming-tong.
Chen visited Thailand in July for work. In September, confidential details about his stay in Bangkok, along with photographs, were leaked on Twitter and Facebook.
On Friday, Premier Su told lawmakers that the incident appears to have links with Chinese-made Huawei equipment. He suspects it may have been used to spy on Chen in Thailand.
Su adds that Taiwan cannot be certain about how Thailand’s data infrastructure was infiltrated. However, Taiwan has long had concerns about the security risks involved in using Chinese technology.
Su says that Taiwan has to learn from the incident to reduce the risk of future leaks.
