COVID-19 (10/07): Taiwan reports 50,710 local cases, 52 deaths

Taiwan reported 50,710 new local cases of COVID-19 on Friday. That’s almost 15% more than on Friday last week.

If you take into account the population of each area of Taiwan, Yilan County has the highest per-capita number of infections. More than 1,200 people have new cases of COVID there. New Taipei is also dealing with a high number of infections, as is Taoyuan.

Another 52 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, and less than a third had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.

Authorities say another 228 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.

Taiwan also recorded 69 imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
