Indian politician Sujeet Kumar arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for a 10-day visit aimed at deepening ties between Taiwan and India. He is the first Indian parliamentarian to make an official visit to Taiwan since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in late 2019.
Before arriving in Taiwan, Kumar told Taiwan’s Central New Agency that the purpose of his visit is to attend the Yushan Forum on October 7 which is a forum for regional dialogue. He will also participate in the first Taiwan-India Dialogue on October 8.
In addition, his itinerary includes meetings with President Tsai Ing-wen and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu as well as other senior government officials, representatives and scholars.
Kumar notes that Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy and India’s Look East Policy provide a framework for the two nations to expand cooperation. He says that he intends for his visit to help do that.
