Taiwan reported 44,500 new local cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. That’s almost a 5% decrease from the same period last week.
If you take into account the population of each area of Taiwan, the Matsu Islands are a hotspot for the virus. Over 30 people have new cases of COVID there, within a population of less than 13,000. Yilan is also dealing with a high number of infections, as is Hualien.
Another 33 people have died from COVID-19. The majority were over the age of 80 and the youngest were in their 60s. Less than a quarter of them had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Taiwan also recorded 247 imported cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
