Taiwan’s Premier Su Tseng-chang has traveled to eastern Taiwan, where two magnitude 6 earthquakes have damaged buildings, blocked roads and broken bridges.
The magnitude 6.4 and 6.8 quakes hit Hualien and Taitung counties on Saturday and Sunday. They’ve been followed by more than a hundred aftershocks.
Su has thanked the military, police, fire service, medics and local government workers for working together to rescue people as soon as the earthquakes hit.
The premier says the focus is now on recovery efforts and making sure weak buildings and bridges are reinforced.
