Next month, the United States and Taiwan will discuss plans to work together more closely on semiconductors. At a press conference on Friday, US Assistant Secretary of Commerce Arun Venkataraman refused to provide details of the upcoming talks, but praised the depth of US-Taiwan economic ties.

Last year, Taiwan and the United States launched the US-Taiwan Technology Trade and Investment Collaboration. Its aim is to strengthen cooperation on semiconductors and promote two-way investment.

Making more semiconductors on home soil is a major policy goal of the Biden administration. In early August, the president signed the CHIPS and Science Act, which promises billions of dollars for new American chip plants.

The United States’ de-facto embassy in Taiwan announced the latest round of talks under the collaboration framework at the SEMICON Taiwan 2022 exhibition on Wednesday. Those talks are set to take place in mid-October in Washington.

Venkataraman, who is currently visiting Singapore, said on Friday that he cannot share details of the upcoming event. But he says that he is proud of the depth of economic cooperation between the US and Taiwan.
