Taiwan reported 49,540 new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
New Taipei City recorded the most new infections, with 10,635 people there testing positive for the disease. Taichung City had the second most cases with 6,452, followed by Taipei City with 5,853.
Another 37 people have died from COVID-19. Half were over the age of 80, and only five had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.
Authorities say another 145 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 168 imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
