A week after authorities issued a land warning for Typhoon Hinnamnor, Typhoon Muifa is also making a close pass to Taiwan. Though Muifa isn’t expected to make landfall, it is drenching the north of the island with heavy rain.
Footage from Japan’s Ishigaki Island shows an intense storm battering a seaport. This is the power of Typhoon Muifa. The storm is also getting closer to Taiwan. It will come nearest to the country on Monday and Tuesday. It’s not expected to make landfall, but Muifa has already brought torrential rain.
Northern Taiwan has seen a huge amount of rainfall. Weather authorities have already issued rain warnings for all of northern Taiwan and parts of central Taiwan. Weather forecasters say that Muifa is moving slowly as it makes its pass near Taiwan. On Monday evening, the storm will pick up speed and head toward China.
Officials say that Muifa is moving slowly so the storm will linger over Taiwan for a while. So long as it’s here, there’s going to be rain — and lots of it. Authorities are urging people to stay away from mountainous and coastal areas until the weather clears up.
