Taiwan reported 25,346 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
If you take into account the population of each area of Taiwan, the Matsu Islands are a hotspot for the virus. Hsinchu County is also dealing with a high number of infections, as is Hualien County.
Another 28 people have died from COVID-19. That includes Taiwan’s second confirmed death from the BA.5 subvariant of Omicron. The woman who died was in her 60s. She was bedridden at the time she was infected.
Authorities say another 44 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.
Taiwan also recorded 237 imported cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
