The European Affairs Committee of Slovakia’s parliament has passed a resolution supporting Taiwan’s participation in the International Civil Aviation Organization. The organization is a specialized agency of the UN that helps set the rules for international air travel.
Thursday’s resolution indicates that the committee supports Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the organization’s meetings, related mechanisms and activities. The resolution also affirms Taiwan’s contribution and importance in the field of technology.
The resolution comes before the 41st conference of the organization, which will be held on September 27 in Montreal, Canada.
The resolution was proposed by Slovakian parliamentarian Miroslav Ziak, who visited Taiwan in August. Ziak says he was impressed with Taiwan’s development of democracy, politics and its economy.
This is the second time in four months that Slovakia has shown concrete support for Taiwan in international participation. The last time was in May when the same committee expressed support for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s envoy to Slovakia, David Nan-yang Lee, has expressed his gratitude to the Central European country for the passing of the resolution. Lee says Slovakia is an important friend of Taiwan and that the two countries share the values of democracy and freedom.
