A major electronics convention, the Taipei 3C Products and Appliances Expo, kicked off on Friday with President Tsai Ing-wen attending via video. In her keynote speech, the president called for consumers to buy smart and efficient appliances to reduce energy demand and help Taiwan reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
Tsai says that will also help customers save on their monthly electricity bill. She also reminded buyers that they can claim a government energy-saving subsidy of up to NT$2,000 (US$65) per product until next year.
In addition to the national subsidy, the Taipei City government is also offering rebates of up to NT$5,000 (US$165) to persuade residents to swap old, inefficient appliances for new ones.
