Arizona Governor Doug Ducey arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday in a bid to deepen high-tech cooperation and boost business ties with the island.
The trip is the fourth by a high-level U.S. official after Nancy Pelosi’s historic visit in early August. Governor Ducey is set to depart Taiwan on Thursday. This is Ducey’s first visit to Taiwan since he was first elected in 2015.
While in Taiwan, the Governor will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu. He will also attend “US Business Day” and discuss opportunities with Taiwanese industry and government leaders in semiconductor manufacturing and other sectors.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou says the visit will further strengthen economic cooperation and deepen the mutually beneficial relationship between Taiwan and the U.S.
Taiwan and Arizona enjoy a long-standing relationship, with bilateral trade totaling almost US$2 billion last year.
