New York Mets host 17th annual Taiwan Heritage Day
Taiwan Heritage Day is celebrated at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows, NY

The New York Mets hosted the 17th annual Taiwan Heritage Day on Sunday at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows, New York. Retired Taiwanese professional baseball player Peng Cheng-min threw the first ceremonial pitch at the game with thousands of fans in attendance.

President Tsai Ing-wen gave a pre-recorded address to the crowd on the stadium’s jumbotron. She introduced the signature event and also took the opportunity to thank the US for its support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

There were also several Taiwan-themed performances to entertain the audience.

The New York Mets have hosted Taiwan Heritage Day since 2005 in celebration of Taiwanese culture. As part of the festivities, attendees were given the option of purchasing a limited edition Taiwan-themed replica jersey. Peng also met with fans while he was at Citi Field.
