No cuts to quarantine period till COVID wave subsides: Health officials

Taiwan plans to keep its three-day quarantine period for arriving travelers in place at least until after the current wave of #COVID cases subsides. The Central Epidemic Command Center said on Thursday the country must prioritize keeping children and the elderly healthy while the virus’s BA.5 subvariant spreads.

Taiwan recorded 26,967 local cases on Thursday — almost 17% more than a week ago. Health official Chuang Jen-hsiang says the country needs to keep monitoring the spread of cases both in Taiwan and overseas before changing its entry rules.

Chuang also says health officials have not yet decided whether to drop quarantine and allow international tourism at the same time, or do one before the other.

But starting from September, travelers doing the three-day isolation period at home will be able to spend the following four days afterwards with other family members — as long as they have their own room. Previously, people had to spend seven days alone at home or in a quarantine hotel.
