Taiwan’s envoy to France Wu Chih-chung says the number of interviews he gave to French press following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan prompted an official protest from the Chinese embassy.

In an interview with RTI’s French service, Wu said he broke records by giving 20 interviews in the week after Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. He says this made the Chinese embassy in the country publicly ask the French authorities to restrict Wu.

Wu says France and the world are beginning to notice and better understand the threat posed by China.

French viewers got a glimpse of China’s diplomatic rhetoric earlier this month, when Chinese ambassador Lu Shaye said during an interview with BFMTV that the Taiwanese would be subjected to “reeducation” following a Chinese military takeover.

Taiwan and France have recently increased the frequency of parliamentary exchanges. Since October last year, three groups of French lawmakers have visited Taiwan. And in July, Taiwan’s Legislative Speaker You Si-kun led a delegation of parliamentarians to France as part of their European tour.
