Taiwan and the state of Indiana will work together on energy, biotechnology and semiconductor manufacturing. That’s under the terms of a new memorandum of understanding.
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed the agreement on Monday alongside Deputy Economy Minister Chen Chern-chyi.
Chen says that Taiwan and Indiana have forged mutually beneficial partnerships in the fields of education, science and culture. Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, meanwhile, said the memorandum is a joint commitment to fostering economic growth and resilience.
Under the terms of the agreement, Taiwan’s MediaTek Inc. will set up a new design center in Indiana in collaboration with Purdue University. Purdue University will also team up in research and development with Taiwan’s contract electronics maker Wistron Corp. In addition, National Cheng Kung University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tong University will work closely with Purdue University to develop new talent.
