COVID-19 (08/11): Taiwan reports 22,650 local cases, 44 deaths
Taiwan's COVID-19 case numbers for August 11, 2022.

Taiwan reported 22,650 new local cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.

If you take into account the population of each area of Taiwan, Kinmen is a hotspot for the virus. More than 170 people have new cases of COVID there in a population of less than 130,000. Miaoli County is also dealing with a high number of infections, as are the Penghu Islands.

Another 44 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, and less than a quarter had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine. The youngest was just 3 years old.

Authorities say another 110 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.

Taiwan also recorded 259 imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
