A British parliamentary delegation will visit Taiwan later this year. The visit may come in November or December, and will include members of the House of Commons foreign affairs committee. That was according to a report from the Guardian on Monday.

Sources told the Guardian that the trip was meant to demonstrate the United Kingdom’s support for Taiwan. It had been planned for an earlier period, but had to be delayed due to a member of the delegation being diagnosed with COVID.

The report comes amidst a struggle for leadership within the ruling Conservative Party. Both top candidates for the premiership, Foreign Minister Liz Truss and former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, have expressed opposition to China. In June Truss said the UK should provide Taiwan with more weapons.

It is unclear if the delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen. Recent parliamentary missions have met with Taiwan’s top leaders, including President Tsai.
