The chair of Asia’s most valuable company has given a stark warning about consequences of a potential Chinese attack on Taiwan. In an interview with CNN, partially published on Monday, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) Chairman Mark Liu said that a Chinese takeover would hit not just the semiconductor sector, but the whole global economy,

Liu says that if China were to invade Taiwan, TSMC would be forced to shut down. The ensuing chaos, he says, would not be limited to Taiwan, but could reverberate around the globe and reshape the world order.

Liu says there would be no winners in the event of a Chinese aggression towards Taiwan, only losers. He says the world should learn how to avoid a war from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Taiwan is the world’s leading chips producer, and TSMC, which controls 84% of the market, plays a key role in the supply chain. Both the US and China remain heavily dependent on the firm.
