Taiwan military practices repelling Chinese invasion from Taipei airport
The 38th Han Kuang drill is conducted at Songshan Airport.

Taiwan’s armed forces have practiced repelling invading forces from Songshan airport in the very heart of the capital, Taipei. The maneuver was part of the country’s 38th Han Kuang military exercises. They aim to test its defense capabilities against a hostile enemy invasion.

According to the defense ministry, the anti-landing drill was intended to simulate an attack on Taiwan’s capital. The ministry says the mission to protect critical infrastructure in Taipei was a success. It praised the military’s ability to defend Taiwan in case of an emergency.

The week-long Han Kuang drills take place every year across Taiwan, and put a spotlight on the perils the island could face in the event of an attack. Those threats have been growing under increasing military pressure from China.
