COVID-19 (07/29): Taiwan reports 22,983 local cases, 57 deaths
Taiwan's COVID-19 case numbers for July 29, 2022.

Taiwan reported 22,983 new local cases of COVID-19 on Friday. That’s similar to the number reported in the last few days.

If you take into account the population of each area of Taiwan, Hualien County is a hotspot for the virus. More than 400 people have new cases of COVID there. Kinmen is also dealing with a high number of infections, as are the Penghu Islands.

Another 57 people have died from COVID-19. More than half were aged 80 or over, and only about a third had taken three doses of a COVID vaccine.

Authorities say another 140 people are suffering from moderate or severe symptoms of the disease.

Taiwan also recorded 306 imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday.
