The foreign ministry says it has not been informed that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will visit Taiwan. That’s in light of reports that indicate Pelosi has plans to visit Taiwan in August to show support for the country.

Pelosi was originally scheduled to visit Taiwan in April, but her trip was canceled when she was diagnosed with COVID.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou on Thursday says inviting US members of Congress to Taiwan has been a long standing priority of the foreign ministry and the United States’ representative office in Taipei. However, Ou says her office has not received any concrete information about Pelosi’s visit and that the foreign ministry has no further comments on the matter.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden says the US military does not think it’s a good idea for Pelosi to visit Taiwan at this time. However, US Congressman Mike Gallagher, a long time supporter of Taiwan, says the Taiwan Travel Act makes it clear that US policy allows officials at all levels to visit Taiwan.
