A US Navy guided-missile destroyer sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Tuesday. That’s according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense. The USS Benfold entered the waterway between Taiwan and China from the south and sailed northward.
The US Pacific Command’s Seventh Fleet released a statement about the Benfold’s movements, saying it was done “in accordance with international law.” The fleet stressed "The ship transited through a corridor in the Strait that is beyond the territorial sea of any coastal state."
Taiwan’s defense ministry confirmed the USS Benfold’s transit and said that it monitored the ships movements.
