Daily temperatures are reaching over 36 degrees in Taiwan. That’s leaving some doctors worried about heat injuries. Experts are advising the public to take it easy, drink lots of water, and see a healthcare professional if they feel unwell.

It’s July, and temperatures are getting hot in Taiwan. With temperatures exceeding 36 degrees celsius for multiple days, doctors are worried about heat injuries.

According to the health ministry, in the three days from July 15 through the 17th, 41 people received medical attention for heat injuries. In June, 277 people were treated for heat injuries, a rise from 238 during June 2021.

Dr. Weng Tzu-hua says people taking cold medication should be careful, as the combined effects of the medicine and the heat can cause fainting.

Doctors say the public should avoid outdoor activities if the temperature exceeds 37 degrees celsius. But what should people do if the heat has already made them feel unwell?

Dr. Weng says those suffering from heat exhaustion should lay down to improve blood flow to the vital organs. They should also drink a lot of water.

Weng says if that doesn’t work, and your body temperature remains around 40 degrees, you should seek immediate medical attention.

But some wonder what they can do to keep themselves cool when their rooms get a lot of sunlight and their air conditioners are using a lot of electricity, sending their power bill soaring.

One AC expert says people worried about their electricity bill should set the temperature to between 26 and 28 degrees and use a fan.

Summer is here. Experts say go out and enjoy the sun, but remember to drink lots of water and pay attention to how you’re feeling.
