President Tsai Ing-wen has told leading business figures the government will give them its fullest support to help fuel Taiwan’s economy.
Tsai was speaking on Monday at a meeting of the Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce Taichung. The meeting aims to boost the confidence of overseas investors in Taiwan’s economy amid persistent global market challenges.
At the opening ceremony, President Tsai vowed essential support to Taiwanese businesses operating abroad. She says the government has already paid out more than US$130 million in stimulus loans to Taiwanese companies overseas. Tsai adds that funding will be extended until the end of the year to help more companies face the challenges of the pandemic.
Tsai was joined at the event by Economy Minister Wang Mei-hua, Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen and the ruling party’s mayoral candidate, Tsai Chi-chang.
