Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi will be in Taiwan next week for a five-day visit. This is his second overseas trip since winning the Nobel Prize.
Satyarthi was named as a co-winner of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize last October, together with Pakistani teenager Malala Yousafzai. Both winners were recognized for their “struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education”.
Satyarthi is founder of the Bachpan Bachao Andolan, or Save the Childhood Movement. He said his relationship with the Taiwanese people is "like family". Hundreds of young volunteers from Taiwan have taken part in volunteer services at his organization over the years.
During Satyarthi’s stay, which is scheduled to start on Januray 14, he will meet with President Ma Ying-jeou and Minister of Foreign Affairs David Lin, and visit several charity groups.
