A group of British parliamentarians is in Taiwan to promote bilateral ties. Taiwan’s foreign ministry said on Saturday that the trip is part of regular visits by UK lawmakers to learn more about Taiwan.

The ministry said in a statement that co-chair of the British-Taiwanese All-Party Parliamentary Group of the UK Parliament, Lord Steel of Aikwood, is leading the delegation on the visit.

The ministry said during the delegation’s stay here from Jan. 2-8, it is scheduled to meet with President Ma Ying-jeou and national security officials. The delegation will also call on Legislature President Wang Jin-pyng and officials with the ruling Kuomintang and the opposition Democratic Progressive party.

The ministry said Lord Steel of Aikwood is a close friend of Taiwan and is visiting the country for the fourth time. All members of the delegation have paid great attention to the development of Taiwan’s relations with China and the situation in East Asia. They have also played a part in advancing the ties between Taiwan and the UK.
