President Ma Ying-jeou has brought a lawsuit against media commentator Clara Chou. Chou has alleged that the president took off-the-books donations from the Ting Hsin International Group.
Ting Hsin has been involved in a series of food scandals. Chou has claimed that the group has been let off the hook because President Ma is their “guardian angel”.
Presidential spokesperson Ma Wei-kuo announced the lawsuit on Thursday. She said the president respects freedom of speech, but felt compelled to bring legal action in order to protect his reputation as the head of the state.
