Premier Mao Chi-kuo has said that his Cabinet will work hard to understand people's needs and improve the government's communication with the public. Mao made the comment on Monday when he officially took over the post from Jiang Yi-huah.
Mao, who was moved up from vice premier in a recent Cabinet reshuffle, said the challenges he faces in his new position far exceed the scale of any crisis he has dealt with before.
"With my engineering background, however, I do not have the right to run away from the difficulties I face" said Mao. "Dealing with the problems head-on with practical solutions is always the best way to resolve a crisis.”
Premier Mao said that by building on the work of his predecessor Jiang Yi-huah and the members of Jiang's Cabinet, he hopes to take a humbler approach in understanding the needs of young people and communicate more effectively.
