Taipei Mayor-elect Ko Wen-je says that Taiwan and Mainland China should work to build mutual trust. His comments came on Monday following a meeting with People First Party Chairman James Soong.
In response to media questions about his views on cross-strait relations, Ko said that neither side should hold preconceived notions about the other. He said that if Taiwan and Mainland China view each other as enemies from the beginning, the cross-strait relationship is liable to deteriorate.
Ko said that the same principle of avoiding preconceived notions also applies to the relationship between Taiwan’s two major political parties. He said that building mutual understanding and trust is key, both for cross-strait ties and for inter-party relations in Taiwan.
