Taiwan’s relations with Sao Tome and Principe are stable. That’s the word from Foreign Ministry official Cheng Wei on Tuesday.
Cheng said the African nation’s newly-appointed Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada took office last Saturday after his Independent Democratic Action (ADI) won the parliamentary elections.
Since the two sides established formal diplomatic relations in 1997, they have cooperated in the areas of disease prevention, infrastructure and agriculture.
Cheng said when Trovoada’s father was president, it was him who was in charge of establishing ties with Taiwan.
Sao Tome and Principe is one of the three African nations that maintain formal diplomat ties with Taiwan. The other two are Swaziland and Burkina Faso.
