President Ma Ying-jeou addressed the nation following a major electoral defeat for his party – the Kuomintang (KMT) on Saturday.
Ma, who is also KMT chairman, conceded that the party had suffered a major setback. He said that he had heard the voice of the people and promised reforms. Ma also said that he had approved the resignation of Premier Jiang Yi-huah.
After thanking the KMT’s candidates and supporters, Ma said that the party must continue looking towards the future.
