The European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan (ECCT) called on Taiwan to build on its strengths to be a key hub in the region. That was part of the message it had for Taiwan in its annual publication.
It said Taiwan has become an important player in the global economy and a good place to live and do business but it should set its sights higher. Taiwan can work towards becoming a smart city pioneer, a healthcare innovation hub, a regional financial center and a showcase of renewable energy.
It also suggested that the government continue to make Taiwan an easier place to do business. The ECCT said some requirements such as requiring exact manufacturing dates on different products were a challenge for companies. It also said it should promote green energy by relaxing restrictions in developing wind farms and offer greater incentives for citizens to use green energy.
The publication included 116 suggestions for the government. Of them, 64 were unresolved from past years. National Development Council Minister Kuan Chung-ming said the government would use these suggestions to build a better business environment in Taiwan.
