Chairman of Taiwan’s Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), Lin Join-sane, said on Thursday that his Chinese counterpart is planning to visit Taiwan in December. They are scheduled to meet for the 11th round of cross-strait talks. The SEF is a semi-official organization representing Taiwan’s interests in negotiations with China in the absence of official ties between the two sides.
Lin said that his Chinese counterpart, chairman of China’s Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits Chen Deming, has plans to visit after Taiwan’s year-end municipal elections on November 29.
The 11th round of cross-strait talks will address issues including trade in goods, dispute-resolving mechanisms, tax agreements, the establishment of representative offices, environmental protection and cooperation on aviation safety standards.
Chen was in Taiwan in February for the 10th round of talks. During the talks, the two sides signed agreements on meteorological exchanges and earthquake monitoring.
