Ma to go on nationwide campaign tour before elections

President Ma Ying-jeou plans to tour 13 cities and counties around the country over the weekend to drum up support for Kuomintang (KMT) candidates running in the upcoming municipal elections. The elections are scheduled for November 29.

Ma is also chairman of the ruling KMT. He will begin his nationwide tour on Saturday, when he will participate in a campaign parade for Sean Lien, the KMT’s candidate for Taipei City Mayor. Eric Chu, the KMT’s incumbent candidate for New Taipei City Mayor will be joining Ma and Lien. The parade will end with a rally in front of the Presidential Office building in the evening.

President Ma will also campaign on behalf of KMT candidates in Keelung and Yilan on Saturday morning before moving on to New Taipei City, Hsinchu and Taoyuan.

On Sunday, the president will travel south to Chiayi and Nantou Counties. The highlight of his tour will be a campaign rally in Taichung, in central Taiwan. Ma will be joined by Taichung’s incumbent KMT mayoral candidate Jason Hu. Ma will then head to Changhua County before moving further south to Tainan and Kaohsiung in the evening to campaign on behalf of KMT candidates there.
