The Hualien County Health Bureau has warned travelers visiting southern Taiwan about the risk of contracting dengue fever in the area.
From the beginning of the year up until last week there have been 9,608 cases of dengue fever reported in southern Taiwan, with more than 9,000 coming from Kaohsiung City. However, Pingtung County and Tainan City have also been affected by the outbreak.
The Health Bureau urges anyone who shows symptoms of dengue fever after travel to the affected areas to seek medical attention.
