Taiwan is working to arrange a meeting between its economics minister and his Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting. The meeting is due to be held in Beijing next week.
Taiwan’s economics minister Woody Duh revealed that efforts are being made to arrange a meeting with China’s commerce minister Gao Hucheng. If the arrangements are successful, this will mark the first such talks between Duh and Gao in their capacity as the top economics officials.
According to the economics ministry, Taiwan hopes to talk with China to issues related to the cross-strait Economic cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), such as the signing of a trade in goods agreement between the two sides.
Duh is scheduled to leave for the APEC meeting in Beijing next Thursday. The APEC Ministerial Meeting is scheduled to take place on Nov. 7 and 8.
