The Asia-Pacific Operation Center for Aquaculture in the Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Park in southern Taiwan has been inaugurated.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Saturday. The biotechnology park said that Taiwan excels in breeding and cultivation of ornamental fish and that the center will help push for the development of Taiwan’s ornamental fish industry.
The biotechnology park said ten aquarium operators have entered the park. It also said they are expected to generate an output value of over NT$1 billion (about US$33 million) for Taiwan’s ornamental fish industry.
The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine under the Council of Agriculture has set up a quarantine and inspection station in the park to shorten the quarantine time for ornamental fish exports.
