Chou Tien-chen won Taiwan’s first men’s singles title in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Superseries on Sunday.
The 24-year old Chou came from behind to upset his Chinese opponent Wang Zhengming 10-21, 25-23, 21-19 in the final match of the Yonex French Open 2014 in Paris.
Thrilled by his victory, Chou laid down on the court after winning the match point. Then he got up and shouted and threw his racked into the crowd. It was Chou’s first win against Wang in their three encounters. The Chinese player is 7th in the BWF World Rankings while Chou ranks 13th. Chou has been climbing steadily in the rankings over the past year.
Until Sunday, the best results for a Taiwanese male player in the BWF World Superseries were when Hsieh Yu-hsing and Hsu Jen-hao reached the men’s singles semi-finals in 2009 and 2012.
