HTC releases M8; Chairwoman says this year will see breakthrough
HTC releases M8

Taiwan cell phone manufacturer HTC released its newest flagship model – the M8 -- on Tuesday in New York and London.

The company arranged larger product launches than last year, and about double the media – 1,400 outfits – turned out to report on the new cell phone.

HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang hosted the London product launch, plugging the M8’s features. She said those features -- including a unique double camera lens and BoomSound speaker -- surpassed the designs of other leading competitors.

Wang said that 2014 was set to be a breakout year for HTC, which is struggling to catch up with Samsung and Apple. The company’s CEO, Peter Chou, said Tuesday in New York that the company would make a breakthrough in terms of its marketing as well. He said the company would be teaming up with the US release of the Captain America sequel.

Chou said that in the long term, HTC is hoping to gain 8-10% of the market, to become the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Last year, HTC had less than 5% of the global smartphone market.
