At least 71 products sold in Taiwan have been found to contain beef tallow meant for animal feed and must be removed from store shelves by midnight Saturday. The products ordered to be pulled off shelves include instant noodles made by Taiwanese food giant Uni-President.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made the announcement on Friday. Of the 71 products, 59 were produced by Cheng I Food Co., a subsidiary of Ting Hsin International Group. Ting Hsin is at the center of an escalating food safety scandal in Taiwan. The company’s executive Wei Ying-chun was indicted earlier this week on charges of fraud, forgery, and food-related regulatory violations.
