More food products have been pulled off shelves as more substandard oil has been found on the Taiwanese market.
During an investigation into tainted lard oil, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found that Ting Hsin International Group also imported beef tallow and coconut oil from a Vietnam-based supplier. Ting Hsin was found to have imported animal feed oil from the supplier and mixed it with cooking oil. The FDA has yet to confirm whether the beef tallow and coconut oil are fit for human consumption.
Taiwanese companies that use these products will have to report to the FDA and pull off their food items from store shelves. The FDA said on Thursday that as of 10am, five companies have reported that the beef tallow was used in their products.
Ting Hsin International Group’s executive Wei Ying-chun was indicted earlier this week on charges of fraud, forgery, and food-related regulatory violations.
